WEBSITE DESIGN IS CRITICAL FOR DRAWING IN CUSTOMERS
We’re in a world now where just about every business is online in some form, in fact encountering a business’ website is often some people’s first encounter with a business at all. Making sure your website design accurately represents your company and brand is absolutely critical.
When drawing in clients or customers, it is important to remember that each interaction they have with you or your company reflects upon your brand as a whole. Your company’s website is no exception. A website is not merely a place to list services and provide contact details. A website helps visitors know more about your ethos, operation style, and brand aesthetic, which are all important when building interest and engagement.
GOOD WEBSITE DESIGN MAKES YOUR BRAND MORE “MEMORABLE”
Making sure your website design accurately represents your company and brand is absolutely critical in maintaining a smooth cohesion between what the customer sees, what they then expect, and what your company actually delivers. Evidence shows that using great website design improves business performance. Businesses that undervalue the importance of good website design may be missing vital opportunities.
As I have discussed and will continue to discuss until the cows come home, having a well thought out web design is way more than just the outward appearance of a business, brand, or product. It goes so much deeper, particularly when it comes to brand design. I like to explain the brand design and good website design by likening it to a person, while you may first only encounter their outward appearance, as you get to know them, you discover all the little parts that make them up as a whole. This is what design is.
Have you ever discussed a product or brand and said something along the lines of “I can’t remember the name of it but I can picture it”? -Mark Allan Powers, Entrepreneur
CORPORATE STRATEGY & DESIGN THINKING
Send A Cohesive Message
A well-designed website should combine brain-friendly creative, UI, and messaging. Your website is your lead salesperson, and although the design aesthetic is important, a cohesive message that arcs from prospecting to closing the sale is a critical component of all marketing collateral, including the website.
Make It Clean And Easy To Navigate
It’s crucial to have a clean website design that’s easy to navigate. I make sure that contact information and forms are accessible on all pages to allow clients to easily reach you. While I know the trend in the last few years has been to have a one-page website, it’s difficult with one page to maintain effective SEO. I would recommend including important pages like about us, contact, portfolio/products/services, and a blog or insights page. All of these pages will allow you to curate enough content and keywords to increase your visibility and reach your clients.
Be Responsive And User-Friendly
Just as internal communication is going through a mobile transformation, today’s websites must be responsive and mobile-friendly since many site visitors come from mobile devices. The copy is equally important. The digital space is in the midst of website overhauls and the design aspect is taking precedence. The effective use of good website design gives customers a reason for buying from you and not from your competitors. It’s a valuable source of differentiation that I incorporate into all of my designs to help my clients stand out from their competition.
I Tell Your Story While Stepping Into Your Audience’s Shoes
Questions around “Will the site create value for my desired audience?” and “Will it prove intuitive for them to use?” are definitely at the top of my list. Over the years, I’ve seen many different design approaches and aesthetics come and go. There is a rigor to website design: It takes time and effort to step into your audience’s shoes and create something special. There are no shortcuts and you MUST tell an impactful story.
Good website design and the content will set your website apart from the masses and delivers the right message into the hearts and minds of your customers. The success of your website is determined primarily by its design and content. If you have effective taglines, great design will only enhance their effectiveness. The design and content of your website should always begin with proper market research.
